Concrete Block 3

BLOH001

Prefabricated masonry, made of thin concretes or cement mortars, used in the construction of walls. The blocks are prismatic in shape, with standardised dimensions, and are usually essentially hollow.

Precast concrete blocks: an economical and versatile building solution

A precast concrete block is a pre-fabricated building element commonly used in the construction of walls, buildings and other structures. These blocks are manufactured in a concrete factory using a mixture of cement, aggregates and water, which is poured into moulds to give them the desired shape. Varied shapes and sizes of precast concrete blocks to suit any building project

Varied shapes and sizes of precast concrete blocks to suit any building project

There are different shapes and sizes of precast concrete blocks, but the most common shape is a rectangular parallelepiped with standard dimensions of 40 cm long, 20 cm wide and 20 cm high. However, they can also be manufactured in irregular shapes, such as "L" or "U" shaped blocks, to suit the specific needs of a particular construction.

Quality materials and advanced manufacturing techniques to ensure the durability and strength of precast concrete blocks

The material used to manufacture precast concrete blocks is a mixture of Portland cement, fine and coarse aggregates (such as sand, gravel and crushed stone), water and sometimes additives to improve the properties of the concrete. The quantity and proportion of these materials is adjusted according to the specific characteristics and requirements of the concrete block.

Steel-reinforced precast concrete blocks for more demanding construction projects

In addition, precast concrete blocks can be reinforced with steel bars inserted into the moulds before the concrete mix is poured, which increases the strength and durability of the block. They can also be treated with coatings to improve appearance and protection against the elements.

Factory production of precast concrete blocks allows for faster and more efficient construction.

  • Goggle: Goggle concrete blocks are the most common model. They must be subsequently coated with some kind of surface treatment (normally plastered on the inside and rendered on the outside). They are also used with horizontal openings to create lattices that do not completely block the view or the passage of air to the outside.
  • Multi-chamber: Multi-chamber concrete blocks have compartmentalised internal voids. These blocks are often used when a single leaf wall is intended to be built. The internal partitions insulate the air in different chambers, thus increasing the insulation of the wall. They are similar in concept to thermo-clay blocks.
  • Load-bearing: Load-bearing concrete blocks are more massive and are used when the wall has structural functions (i.e. when it supports the upper slab).
  • Reinforced: Reinforced concrete blocks are designed as permanent formwork for solid concrete walls. They have internal recesses to support the steel reinforcement.
